Stigma

stigma, as defined by Merriam-Webster, means: a mark of shame or discredit

I wear beneath my skin a disease that you can’t see;

In fact, you can’t even understand,

the battle I fight and where I stand,

with the same world that you see laid out before me

and yet, I’m not dealt the same hand.

Inside I wage a war against myself, a personal hell,

but despite the pain it causes me, it’s a truth I can’t tell

Because I may as well wear a sign that declares:

“I’m insane.”

Nobody will care for me and what I have to say

if for even one second they think

there’s something wrong with my brain.
