F(fake)RIEND

Writer's picture: Alixx BlackAlixx Black

Fake friend,

Flaked again friend,

Called and fell asleep friend,

Can’t be bothered to listen to me friend.

Fake friend,

Always showing up late friend,

Can’t make time for me friend,

Never wanting to hang friend.

Fake friend,

Leaving me on ‘read’ friend,

Never check on me friend,

Will never be happy here friend.

Fake friend,

Stuck on repeat friend,

Giving up on life friend,

Make the same mistakes friend.

Can’t believe you’re fake friend.

Can’t believe I fell for you again.

Author’s Note/Babble: Friendships are really weird and hard and unpredictable. Everyone finds a friend in their life that just isn’t willing to move on from their misery. At first those friendships are really fun and healthy because they’re predictable. It’s always what you expect. Good friendships evolve and change with life, and so “F(fake)RIEND” really addresses head on the predictable friend who has become so predictable that it’s toxic and damning to the friendship. The narrative voice for this piece aims to show that that lack of commitment to the friendship and being ready to grow into the friendship is ripping it apart seam by seam. Whether I accomplished that – I guess only you, the reader, can tell me.
