Insomnia

Writer's picture: Alixx BlackAlixx Black
Insomnia, as defined by Merriam-Webster, is the prolonged inability to enough sleep. The side effects of having insomnia, though, are extensive. It affects both physical and mental health. For example, it can cause new mental health disorders or worsen existing ones. It can cause high blood pressure and heart disease if it goes untreated for a long enough period of time. Source.

Sometimes it feels like the advice doesn’t work

I’ve got my alarms set to a schedule

But it simply doesn’t work

Every hour and minute is accounted for every day

Still I lie awake in bed unable to get any sleep

I take a hot bath and a read from a poetry book

I fluff my pillows and turn the lights down low

And then I lie awake for who knows how long

Actually, I do know – it’s all night

I tried to follow the doctor’s advice

I must not be doing it right

because

It simply doesn’t work
